Ms. Cantor is honored to be recognized by the Mississippi Department of Education as a graduate of Literacy Coach Academy Cohort 3! 🎉
This year, she was proud to be one of only 19 participants selected, joining a distinguished group of just 46 educators statewide who have earned this achievement. She is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving as a voice for literacy growth and excellence in our schools. Thank you to the mentors, colleagues, and educators who inspire this work every day. Together, we are helping all students become stronger readers and lifelong learners.

We would like to offer a big warm welcome to our newest team member: Ms. Alicia Gillespie!
She will be serving as one of our Assistant Principals this year!
A little bit about her: She began her educational career teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grade English Language Arts at Lyon Elementary School for seven years. After relocating to DeSoto County, she joined Horn Lake Middle School, where she taught 6th grade English for two years before transitioning into 6th grade math for the past five years. These experiences have strengthened her passion for student success, relationship-building, and creating a positive school culture where all students feel supported, challenged, and inspired to grow.

LIT Night was a huge success. We had some stellar story tellers, amazing and talented musical performances, delicious hot cocoa, and lots of fellowship. Special thanks to HLMS for the performances by the combined 7th/8th grade choir as well as HLHS’ woodwind quintet. We also appreciate our Superintendent, Mr. Uselton, for stopping by!
