About the Teacher

Hello there! My name is Ms. Johnson and I am so excited to be teaching your children some math and science this year! I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Studies K-6. This is my third year of teaching at HLIS and I absolutely love it! I live in Midtown, Memphis with my two dogs, RIley and Lilly, and my cat, Meeko. I have one younger sister and two wonderful parents.  I love to travel, kayak, camp- basically anything outdoors. I am so excited to share this adventure with your kiddos this year! It's going to be a great one!

Weekly Lessons
HLIS will be using the i-Ready platform for our ELA and Math Distance Learning lessons.  This platform allows me to continually monitor student progress in order to provide students with needed support and help our team plan for upcoming lessons.

For students to access i-Ready they will need the following information:

Username: First initial of student's first name, first initial of student's last name followed by student's lunch number
Password: Student's lunch number
For example, the student's name is John Doe and his lunch number is 123456.
Username: JD123456

Password: 123456

To log-in to i-Ready, please go to the following link:  https://login.i-ready.com/login

The web version works best through Google Chrome.  Also, there is an i-Ready app available for iPads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

May 18-May 21 Weekly Distance Learning Plans

ELA:

SCAVENGER HUNT - Packets are in bins in the front of the school ready for pick up

This week instead of i-Ready we are going on a scavenger hunt - the students will need the packet to complete the activities - There are 6 Scavenger Hunts - My Kitchen - My Bedroom - Physical Activity - My Emotional Health - In My Yard and My Reading.

Students will pick 4 of the 6 to complete (one each day ) - then pick one of the Extension Activities to go with each of the scavenger hunts. Text or email a picture of the work when completed.

Math:

Here is some more information about how students can battle in Prodigy from home:

1. Go to www.prodigygame.com/play

2. Login to your prodigy account

3. Click update and type in the class code. Our new class code is 76816C. Make sure this in all caps! (Super important!!)

It is also very important that you choose that you are playing at school rather than at home.

When you choose your world, you can see and select the "More Worlds" button on the bottom right hand of the screen.

"Follow the path" by clicking on the pointing hand to take you to different parts of the world.

You may not be able to find me right away. You will have to compete other battles with classmates to find me.

My wizard name is Alexandra Lifedancer

Here is the schedule for battle times:

Monday: Flexor starting at 5 p.m.

Tuesday: Frozone starting at 5 p.m.

Wednesday: Firestrike starting at 5 p.m.

Parent Communication

During the time we are unable to meet in person, we will have "virtual school hours" to answer emails, messages, and/or questions Monday-Friday from 7:30- 3:30. If a message is received after 3:30 or over the weekend,it will likely be the next business day before I am able to respond.

Things we need

It never hurts to have enough pencils!

Also, with cold and flu season approaching faster than we think, tissue and germ-x are greatly appreciated!
